MAYFIELD DINNER THEATRE, Edmonton, Alberta

This fabulous 10-week run in Alberta, Canada, featured previous London ‘Buddies’ Dean Elliott and Matthew Wycliffe sharing the lead, in summer 2010.

Buddy filled our theatre… Every night”

Review:

“A genuine barn-burner of a smash… Holly’s music is delivered by consummate performers backed by a tight, energetic ensemble. Elter, as the Big Bopper, takes ‘Chantilly Lace’ and expands it into a show-stopping tour de force. Brennan Cuff’s reading of ‘La Bamba’ recreates the sexy stage athleticism of Ritchie Valens. But it is (Dean) Elliott who commands the evening. The whole last half hour is the concert as it might have been staged in 1959, and the charismatic performer, actually playing his own stratocaster, leaves no doubt as to his ability. He’s got the goofy charm, the choppers, the quiff of unruly hair, the great voice and expends enough energy to personally bring on global warming.

“And the hits, ‘That’ll Be the Day’, ‘Peggy Sue’, ‘Oh Boy’, ‘Rave On’, just keep on coming… as joyous entertainment, it is about as good as it gets.”
- Colin MacLean, Edmonton Sun

Dean Elliott plays Buddy Holly

Due to overwhelming demand, Mayfield Dinner Theatre remounted Buddy in 2013, with Jeff Giles in the lead role.
